My Story
I never dreamed of building a million-dollar Etsy business.
I just wanted more time with my children.
When I became a mom, life looked very different than I had imagined.
I was teaching full-time, earning a salary that made it difficult to support our growing family, while trying to care for two young children—one of whom was chronically ill. Every day felt like a constant balancing act between being the teacher my students deserved and the mother my children needed.
As much as I loved education, I knew something had to change.
I wasn't looking for wealth.
I wasn't chasing entrepreneurship.
I was simply searching for a path that would give me more time with my family and a little more hope for the future.
In November of 2020, I bought my first laser machine.
Looking back, the machine itself wasn't what changed my life.
Hope did.
Within my first month, I had already made my investment back thanks to a free SVG file I found online.
It wasn't a life-changing amount of money.
But it was something far more valuable.
Proof.
For the first time, I could see another path forward.
That tiny glimpse of possibility changed everything.
What happened next still feels surreal.
Within a year, that little laser business had done what I once thought was impossible.
It allowed us to buy our family's first home.
It gave me the confidence to leave the classroom and be home with my children.
Not long after, it gave my husband the opportunity to leave his job and join me full-time.
What started as a side business had become our family's livelihood.
And more importantly...
It had become our family's freedom.
We spent the next several years growing faster than we ever expected.
By our second year, our Etsy shop had generated over $250,000 in sales.
We upgraded our equipment, transformed our garage into a full workshop, and hired seasonal help to keep up with demand.
It felt like every holiday season brought new challenges, new lessons, and new opportunities to grow.
Then, by our fourth year, something happened that still feels difficult to put into words.
Our laser business surpassed $1 million in Etsy sales.
AND we purchased a second home.
We built relationships with consistent production partners.
Our little side hustle had become a full-fledged family business.
Today, our Etsy shop has fulfilled nearly 60,000 orders, earned more than 11,500 five-star reviews, and generated over $1.5 million in revenue from laser-made products.
But somewhere along the way, something unexpected happened.
Near the end of 2025, we found ourselves preparing for the next big leap.
A commercial warehouse. Additional laser machines. A larger production team.
From the outside, it looked like the obvious next step.
But as we planned for more growth, we asked ourselves a simple question:
Why?
When we started this journey, the laser was never the goal.
The goal was time.
Time with our children.
Time together as a family.
Freedom to choose how we spent our days.
And then it hit us.
The laser business had already given us exactly what we had set out to find.
We didn't need to keep growing simply because that's what businesses are "supposed" to do.
For us...
Growth had already done its job.
So we made a different decision.
Instead of scaling our business...
We chose to scale it back.
That wasn't an easy decision.
We removed more than 150 products from our Etsy shop.
We moved our laser out of our workshop and into a small bedroom in our home.
We said goodbye to trusted friends and family members who had worked alongside us for years.
From the outside, it probably looked like we were moving backwards.
But we weren't.
We were moving toward the life we had set out to build all along.
When we started this journey, the goal was never to build the biggest laser business possible.
The goal was time.
Time with our children.
The freedom to choose how we spent our days.
The opportunity to build a life that reflected our values—not just our revenue.
And one day, we realized something that completely changed our perspective.
The business had already done exactly what we had asked it to do.
It had served its purpose.
It gave us financial stability.
It gave us flexibility.
It gave us options.
It gave us back our time.
So instead of asking, "How do we make this business bigger?"
We started asking,
"What do we want our life to look like now?"
That question changed everything.
For me, the answer was clear.
I wanted to teach again. Education has always been my passion, my purpose.
Today, I get to do that in two ways.
Through Laser to Lifestyle, I help makers build businesses with intention, sharing the strategies and lessons that transformed my own life.
And through the microschool I'm building in my community, I get to return to working with children and families in a way that reflects everything I've learned as both an educator and an entrepreneur.
My husband has stepped into a new venture with his childhood best friend—another opportunity that only became possible because of the freedom our laser business created.
The laser business didn't disappear.
It became the foundation that made all of our next chapters possible.
And I can't think of a greater success than that.
A laser machine can change your income. Intentional, strategic decisions can change your whole life.
Today, my Etsy shop has fulfilled nearly 60,000 orders, earned more than 11,500 five-star reviews, and generated $1.5 million in revenue.
But when I look back, those numbers aren't what I'm most proud of.
I'm proud that I was able to be home with my children.
I'm proud that my husband and I got to build something together.
I'm proud that one of my former students became my employee.
I'm proud that our business created opportunities for the people we love.
And I'm proud that today, I get to return to education—not because I have to, but because I choose to.
That's what success looks like to me.
Welcome to Laser to Lifestyle! I'm so glad you're here :-)
